Lora crowned Kapit Kumang Gawai

KAPIT: An Iban lass, 21-year-old Lora Anak K was crowned this year’s Kapit Kumang Gawai during the Kapit Gawai Dayak Dinner Gala held at Civic Centre here, recently.

She outshone nine finalists to claim the Kumang title. With the win Lora brought home RM2,500, a trophy, a hamper and a bouquet of flowers.

The first runner-up was 19-year-old Petrina Olivia Anak Janggun. She received RM1,500, a trophy, a hamper and a bouquet of flowers.

In third place was 19-year-old Vanessa Seri Anak Joseph who received RM1,000, a trophy, a hamper and a bouquet of flowers.

The seven finalists were 19-year-old Nia Isabelle Henry, 20-year-old Patricia Anak Ganing, 21-year-old Farida Anak Ronnie, 22-year-old Adilla Anak Kumpong and 22-year-old Assemodya Anak Banang. Each of them received RM500 and a certificate from the organiser.

Nancy Kuyor (wife of  Bukit Goram Assemblyman), Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Seriah Thomas (wife of Pelagus Assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang) and Song District Officer Jacklyn August gave away prizes to the winners.

The Kumang Gawai contest was held in conjunction with Kapit Gawai Dayak Dinner Gala 2017 organised by the Youth Wing of SDNU (Sarawak Dayak National Union) Kapit Branch which was attended by more 800 guests.

The event was officiating at by Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Pelagus Assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Bukit Goram Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Political Secretaries to the Chief Minister, Nicholas Kudi Jantai and Tapah Ata, special affairs officer to Deputy Prime Minister Councillor Jackson Melintang, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Deputy Kapit Resident Galong Luang, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Song District Officer Jacklyn August, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga, Walikota of Kapit District Council Philimon Nuing, heads of various departments and local community leaders.
