KUCHING: Thanks to a public tip-off, another illegal logging operation has been stopped dead in its track by Sarawak Forestry Corporation ( SFC) yesterday morning, this time at Bukit Berangan Tengah, Jalan Kuap.

“Our enforcement team at Kuching Regional Office went into action soon after receiving information about suspicious activities at the said location. The subsequent raid detained a lorry and 170 pieces of jungle poles.

None of the poles bear any official markings,” said a statement issued by SFC yesterday.

According to SFC, only lorry and poles were seized while the two suspects had fled the scene.

A police report on the case had been made at Kota Sentosa Police Station and the detained poles will be handed over to the relevant authority for further investigation and disposal.

This is the third case to happen since last December and members of the public, especially contractors are reminded to purchase timber from legal sources.
