SIBU: A lorry driver was detained for transporting illegal logs at Jalan Wawasan, Sungai Merah here on Nov 1.

State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN) personnel together with Sibu police detained the suspect around 4.30pm after receiving information from the public.

UPKN on Monday (Nov 16) said inspection on the lorry found that it was transporting 12 logs of various species and sizes.

“Upon inspection, it was found that the logs did not have Sarawak Forest Department hammer mark and ownership hammer mark.

“The lorry driver was arrested to assist in the investigation,” UPKN said.

All case items will be investigated under Section 96 (1) of the Forest Ordinance 2015 (Chapter 71).
