SIBU: A 39-year-old lorry driver reported that he had lost RM12,000 to an online loan fraud.

Sibu Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement on Friday said the local man had opted to go for a loan which was advertised on a Facebook page.

“The victim clicked on a link, then he was contacted by a man and dealt with him over the phone.

“The victim was interested to get a loan of RM1,000 but only RM700 was deposited into his account,” he said.

The victim was then instructed to pay RM300 per week until completion to the given account.“After the victim failed to make repayment as had been agreed, he was offered to take two more loans for the same amount and repayment terms,” he said.

Zulkipli revealed that the victim received a loan of RM2,100 in total but had already paid RM12,000 through several transactions to three different accounts.

“The complainant could not stand it because he was still being pressured to make more payment and thereafter lodged a police report,” he said.

Investigations are continuing.
