Lorry driver killed in ravine plunge

BINTULU: A lorry-tanker driver was killed on the spot after his vehicle plunged into a ravine along the Tatau-Bintulu Road near Semanok, about 244km from Miri on Thursday (July 9).

The driver, identified as Joshua Suen Kasin, 44, was driving the lorry-tanker prior to the incident and was believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and plunged about 20 meters into a ravine.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operation room (PGO), eight firemen from Tatau fire station rushed to the scene after receiving an alert at 9.58am to help extricate the victim who was trapped underneath the vehicle.

An excavator belonging to a Pan Borneo contractor was used to help firemen to recover the body of the trapped driver from the vehicle.

The operation ended at 11.30am.
