The 20-year-old victim was found at 11.10pm after he was buried under the lorry’s cabin for almost five hours last Saturday night.

SERIAN: A lorry passenger died following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Kampung Paon Rimu on Saturday (Feb 5).

The victim identified as Alexander Alon, 20, was found crushed under the lorry’s cabin for almost five hours after the 10-tonne lorry loaded with oil palm fruits collided with a pickup truck at 6pm.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the victim was found around 11.10pm after the overturned lorry was successfully moved with the help of an excavator and another lorry.

Rescuers managed to bring the victim out and later pronounced dead before being handed over to the police for further action.

Earlier, firemen from Serian station were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call regarding two vehicles that overturned at a bend.

Three individuals in the pickup truck were successfully extricated from the vehicle and were brought to the hospital for further treatment.

The lorry driver who was unharmed, was also extricated from the vehicle and informed rescuers that he was with a passenger (deceased victim) during the incident.

When the driver called the victim’s phone, he heard the phone ringing but it was not answered. Following that, the search for the victim was carried out with the help of an excavator to find out the victim’s status.

An excavator was used to move the overturned lorry to facilitate search and rescue efforts for the victim.
