LAWAS: State Minister of Tourism and Arts Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah launched Lun Bawang Festival 2017 here recently.

Among those who witnessed the launching were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Dato Henry Sum Agong, Limbang Division Resident Datu Maria Hasman, Ba’kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian and Sarawak Lun Bawang Association president Ipoi Dathan

Speaking at the function the minister said his ministry will continue to promote the unique culture of the Lun Bawang community and the local ethnic communities in northern Sarawak overseas in order to attract more tourists to the state.

He hoped a new airport can be built in Lawas to make it easier for foreign tourists to visit tourist spots in the district.

“We have met with more than 150 groups of tourists in Hong Kong who asked that routes directly to the state be realized from China or Hong Kong.

“They assert direct access will be easier for tourists who wish to explore the wealth of tourism products in Sarawak directly without going through transit flights to other states or countries, “he said, adding that the northern region of the state will not be marginalized by the ministry in an effort to promote tourism in the State.
