KUCHING: A leading political analyst said there is a need for tacit political commitment to solve matters concerning the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report.

National Council of Professors senior fellow Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir said should all matters be resolved in their totality, the next step would be to enhance the relationship between the two Borneon states and the federal government and move forward to build a stronger nation.

“With a Deputy Prime Minister from Sarawak (Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof) who understands the issue very well, the sentiments and aspirations of the people, as mentioned in the manifesto of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and also Pakatan Harapan (PH), the problems should be solved,” he said.

In this respect he hoped this issue will be solved as it will otherwise create a lot of uncertainties and anxiety among the people.

“We are hoping to see a positive result based on common understanding and the original spirit of MA63 and the IGC report,” he told New Sarawak Tribune in an interview, yesterday (Dec 7).

He was commenting on the announcement made by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on entrusting Fadillah to steer and focus on the affairs of Sabah and Sarawak, especially on MA63.

Jeniri said national integration and social cohesion among the various races are equally important.

“With strong social cohesion and national integration, we can then ensure socio-political stability in the country and bring economic growth and prosperity,” he said.

On the possible appointment of Sarawak MPs as Deputy Ministers, Jeniri said he believed Anwar will give serious consideration to party composition, quota and hierarchy.

“The appointment of Deputy Ministers is the prerogative of the Prime Minister,” he pointed out.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has mentioned the names of Datuk Seri Doris Brodie (Sri Aman MP) and Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong (Hulu Rajang MP) for federal deputy ministerial posts in the federal government.
