MIRI: A 35-year-old unemployed man was arrested on Monday (July 5) after he threatened a 27-year-old farmer in Batu Niah with a machete.

During the 6.40pm arrest, police also recovered the 59cm-long machete used in the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was having an affair with the farmer’s wife. When the farmer learned about his wife’s affair with the suspect, he lodged a police report.

The suspect, when found out about the lodged report, became angry and threatened the farmer with the machete.

Acting on a police report, a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department picked up the suspect in a bush nearby Jalan Topekong Sungai Niah in Batu Niah.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
