MUKAH: A sago factory worker here would not be able to celebrate Hari Raya as he was found dead on Monday.

According to District Police chief (KPD) DSP Jimmy Panyau, a call was made by Nitsei Sago Industries Sdn Bhd supervisor, Jubli Idli, on June 3 at about 8am.

“The supervisor informed the police that one of the workers was unconscious and was suspected to be dead.

“The 54-year-old victim Mahali Merdin, from Kampung Jebungan, who worked as a Flour Filter Machine Operator, was found dead at the scene here,” he said.

Jimmy also said that during early investigations, it was found that the victim came to work as usual and the workers would interact with each other before heading to the toilet.

“After the victim walked out of the toilet, he suddenly rushed to a nearby bench and sat down immediately.

“At the same time, the victim’s colleagues who were unaware of what was going on with him continued on working and after five minutes, the victim was not moving.

“After the victim’s colleagues felt something amiss, they approached him. They then found out that he was unconscious. They tried to wake him up but he did not respond,” he added.

Meanwhile, according to a statement taken from the victim’s sister, Mahali, an alcoholic, often complained of a burning sensation in his chest.

“Inspection of the victim’s body found no injury or anything out of the ordinary. The body was sent to the Mukah Hospital for a post-mortem,” said Jimmy.
