SIBU: MagnumCares ushers in the Year of the Rabbit with its flagship CSR (corporate social responsibility) festive programme ‘Welfare Homes Outreach’ that runs for more than three decades, in anticipation of the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.

Parts of the activities include angpow distribution, CNY cheque presentation and the Home Enhancement programme (HEP).

Magnum Sibu in-charge Philip Tiong yesterday visited three local charity bodies, namely, Sibu Kidney Foundation(SKF), Sibu Beevolent Society (SBS) and Sibu Blind Centre (SBC).

At the SKF, he presented a cheque for RM3,000 to the centre’s assistant manager April Wong Keen Sing whereas at both SBS and SBC, angpows and festive goodies were distributed to the residents.

MagnumCares in a statement stated that the 39th year event aims to benefit more than 25,000 senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwDs) and orphans nationwide.

MagnumCares teams have stepped up to spread kindness and positivity to help more than 220 welfare homes and schools with a total of RM730,000 worth of festivity contribution, such as donation cheques, angpow, essential home groceries and CNY festive goodies.

In Sarawak, there are 34 selected homes and schools with more than 3,000 senior citizens/OKU homes/orphans to receive and benefit from MagnumCares CNY Programme with a total of RM81,180.

Besides, MagnumCares currently are visiting the underprivileged welfare homes to help with implementing the 3Rs activities (Repairing, Refurnishing and Replacing), such as eco-friendly LED lights and wiring installations; replacing old furniture to new appliances (including ceiling, chairs, etc); and purchase learning material (coloured pencils, A4 paper, etc).

“The greatness of a community is measured by the compassionate actions of our members. We are committed to empower the community through our annual programmes, and by carrying the slogan “For You, With You”. We wish to spread kindness and hope to the community, especially during this festive season.

“Thus, apart from contributions such as angpows and home necessities, HEP caters to repair, refurnish and replace faulty essential items to ensure the residents are staying in a comfortable, safe and sustainable environment throughout the year”.

MagnumCares first started its annual ‘Welfare Homes Outreach’ programme back in 1985 with the objective of assisting variety of charitable homes of organisations during lunar new year and other festivities.
