KUCHING: Major problems in Kota Samarahan will be substantially solved by 2022, said Kota Samarahan municipal council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

He stated that it was certainly a great relief that some of the big ‘headaches’ such as serious traffic and water problems were being gradually sorted out and solved.

“By 2022, I think these major problems will be substantially solved.

“The next one would be the coastal road passing through Sadong Jaya Bridge to Samarahan Bridge, which will be implemented very soon. There will also be secondary roads radiating from this part of the coastal road. All these will bring more development (to the district) while improving the lives of the locals,” he said.

Minos pointed out that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had announced a RM500 million water project that would benefit the rural population of Samarahan Division on Thursday.

He added that the residents especially those in Sebuyau, Sadong Jaya and Asajaya were happy because at long last, treated water would be coming to them following the chief minister’s announcement.

“For years, residents of rural Samarahan have been asking for and wanting regular treated water.

“During the hot seasons, they get the worst blunt. I really feel sorry for them. Hence, this latest news is one big relief to them,” he said.
