SARIKEI: Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii is appealing to Sarikei voters to send him to Parliament.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate has earnestly pleaded for the opportunity to be their member of parliament (MP).

Huang said he has served two terms as the Repok assemblyman and has brought many changes to Sarikei in terms of welfare of the people, infrastructure facilities and children’s education.

Asking to be given the chance to wrest the seat back from the opposition in the 15th general election (GE15), he said: “I do not want to make empty promises to the people, but I assure you if I am elected as MP, I will work my heart out to get things done and bring more changes in Sarikei.”

He was speaking during the appointment of the new committee members of the Chinese Union Association Sarikei at Dewan Sentral Sarikei here, last night (Nov 13).

Huang is the Sarawak Chinese Union Association adviser.

“When Pakatan Harapan took over the government in 2018, a lot of projects were delayed or cancelled by them, for example the construction of the Batang Rambungan, Kuala Kemena, and Batang Lasso bridges.

“Even the projects to upgrade and repair dilapidated schools here were halted. These projects are under the federal government,” he said.

Taking the PH government to task, he said what PH did to Sarawak was irresponsible.

Huang paid tribute to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, saying the latter brought changes to the region, transforming Sarawak within a short period.

“Under his leadership, he led the GPS government in bringing about transformation in terms of infrastructure and the welfare of the people, especially in Sarikei.

“In Malaysia, we are a region and an equal partner in the federation. Therefore, if we have all GPS MPs in Parliament, we will have a loud voice to get back our rights which are enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
