KUCHING: Under the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 (DKN 2030), the government is committed to promoting a culture of entrepreneurship in the country in line in with its aim to turn Malaysia into an entrepreneurial nation by 2030.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Medac) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar stated this in reply to Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang during the question-and-answer session in Parliament on Tuesday (July 14).

He said the first strategic thrust of the policy was to increase interest among university graduates in entrepreneurship. 

Wan Junaidi explained that among the initiatives that had been implemented by ministry to increase the participation of university graduates in entrepreneurship was the Technoprenuership Programme for Fresh Graduate.

“This is a pilot programme in collaboration with Medac and MTDC to develop skills and knowledge of university graduates in industry 4.0 technologies,” he explained.

The programme, he added, aimed to   opportunities for graduates to venture into the field of technology entrepreneurship (technopreneurship).

“As of June 9, 2020, a total of 324 university graduates have signed up to participate in this programme,” said Wan Junaidi.

He said another programme was the Agri Coaching and Industry Development programme.

“It offers entrepreneurship training in agriculture for graduates in the B40 group.

“The implementation period for this programme which will involve 140 participants is 12 months.  This year, RM10 million has been allocated to this pilot project involving two states, namely Sarawak and Kedah,” he added.

Wan Junaidi said another programme was the New Gen Entrepreneur Online Bootcamp (N-GENE).

“This programme aims to increase marketability potential and develop entrepreneurship skills among youth online.

“This programme is expected to start in Aug 2020, and we target a participation of 2,000 graduates including students of private and public institutions of higher learning,” he said.
