KUCHING: The collaboration between Sarawak Energy and the State Library (Pustaka) in establishing the PUSTAKA@SARAWAKENERGY, a digital resource centre is timely to make it accessible to every staff.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said with the setting up of the resource centre, the officers and staff would now be able to access online information especially about the latest innovation technology available outside.

“This is also to enrich ourselves including improving our capability, knowledge and experience that we have right now as we have to keep pace with the development of our country and the world,” he said during a press conference after the launching of PUSTAKA@SARAWAKENERGY at Menara Sarawak Energy here today.

Meanwhile, Julaihi also urged Pustaka in the sharing of their rich resource centre either through their hardcopy or their digital resource centre to the rural areas.

“As I mention just now, rural areas are hungry for knowledge, reading materials. So, I do believe with this service being available, if extended to rural areas, it will be able to assist our rural areas especially the students to have accessible to up-to-date and the right materials.

“So that they can keep pace with their counterparts in urban areas and expose them to reading materials especially to improve their English language,” he said.

By providing resource centres digitally, he said Sarawak would need to have better internet coverage statewide.

“At the moment, we are targeting to build 7000 telco towers throughout the state and we encourage telco providers to utilise all the telco towers available especially in the rural areas,” he said.
