KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC Sarawak) wants to make the state a golfing destination and paradise for local golfers and those from abroad. It also wants to boost golf tourism in the state.

Hence, it will be collaborating   with strategic partners from other states, according to the corporation’s general manager Abdul Hadi Datuk Abdul Kadir during the signing ceremony of a reciprocal agreement between Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) and Tawau Golf Club held recently at the clubhouse located at Pantai Damai, Santubong.

“SEDC Sarawak has always emphasised its role as the state government’s agency that can spur economic development including in golf tourism. We want more golfers to visit the club which is one of its subsidiaries,” he added.

Hadi revealed that for 2018 alone, the club was visited by 20,000 golfers from throughout Malaysia and other countries such as USA, United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, NewZealand, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei.

“We aim to make the club one of the popular destinations for tourists, particularly golfers from all over the world and for those   looking for the unique golfing experience.”

The ceremony was attended by 100   local golfers and members of the Tawau Golf Club group.

At the signing ceremony, Tawau Golf Club was represented by its president Larry Rahim Kho while DGCC was represented by its general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh.

According to Larry, most of the group members are first time visitors to Kuching City.

They took the opportunity to try out DGCC which caught their attention after it had hosted last year’s Sarawak Championship as part of the 2018 Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour calendar of events.

The visitors also praised the scenery at DGCC.

Tawau Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in Sabah. Over 80 of its members travelled to Kuching to play in the friendly tournament organised in conjunction with their visit to the club.
