Malaysia and Azerbaijan enhance bilateral ties in education

BAKU, AZERBAIJAN: The Malaysian government is actively working to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster deeper bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan, particularly in the field of education.

President of the Malaysian Senate Datuk Mutang Tagal, during his courtesy call on Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova on May 1, proposed an increase in the number of Azerbaijani students studying in Malaysia.

According to a press statement, Sahiba agreed to support this initiative and would propose extending these discussions to the Azerbaijani Minister of Education.

Furthermore, Mutang invited Azerbaijan to further enhance trade and investment in Malaysia, especially in the renewable energy sector.

He also sought Sahiba’s assistance in logistics for the Malaysian delegation at the upcoming COP29 conference in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, Sahiba highlighted the importance of the ‘Parliamentary Network’ established under the “Non-Aligned Movement” (NAM), where Azerbaijan served as Chair for four years (2019-2022).

She expressed appreciation towards the Malaysian Parliament’s involvement in this network, and invited Malaysia to participate in the 4th Conference of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network in 2025.

She also commended Malaysia’s engagement in fostering close ties through Parliamentary Friendship Groups established between the two countries.

This meeting was part of Mutang’s official visit to Azerbaijan, where he led the Malaysian delegation to attend the “6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue” being held in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 1 to May 3.

This courtesy visit was also attended by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza, and Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Anifah Aman.
