KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local MP has hailed the government’s decision to host the Malaysia Day celebration in Melaka this year.

It is a good decision to strengthen the spirit of unity according to the Malaysian Family concept, said Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang.

She pointed out that it would be a breath of fresh air as the Malaysia Day celebrations on Sept 16 were until now held in Sabah and Sarawak alternately.

“Choosing Melaka as the host for the Malaysia Day celebration is good because the formation of Malaysia did not only involve Sabah and Sarawak but also the peninsula,” she emphasised.

She said this when officiating at the Merdeka@Komuniti programme in conjunction with the Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia (KMKM2022) here on Yesterday (Aug 14).

She called on community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) to organise more programmes for this year’s National Day celebrations.

Rubiah said this will continue to cultivate the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among members of the community, especially the youths.

“It is understood that there are many programmes that will be held including under the Kota Samarahan parliamentary constituency where we will also hold a programme involving all communities in this area for the National Day celebration,” she said.

“If the KMKKs are also organising various programmes, God willing, it can fuel the spirit of independence, unity and the Malaysian Family concept which we are emphasising at the moment considering that the issue of unity has started to be debated at the national and state level.

“So we need to strengthen our ties in Malaysia to ensure that our country continues to be strong and always respected globally,” she said.

Rubiah said the National Day celebration which is held in various ways can be seen as a shared entity and value that brings about unity among numerous races living together in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.

At the function, Rubiah presented the Jalur Gemilang to numerous recipients consisting of representatives from local federal and state government agencies as well as KMKKs.
