KUALA LUMPUR: Yuvan Shankar Raja, the highly celebrated music composer in South Indian cinema, has always considered Malaysia his lucky charm.
The youngest child of Indian music maestro Ilaiyaraaja said that due to the overwhelming support from Malaysian fans, he chose the country as the starting point for his Asian tour.
“I have selected Malaysia as the starting point for my Asian tour, as it holds a special place in my heart,” he told Bernama in an exclusive interview here, recently.
Yuvan was in Malaysia recently to perform in a concert titled ‘High On U1’ – Live In Kuala Lumpur 2023 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on July 15.
The concert, organised by Don’t Run Away Asia, attracted some 12,000 people, with fans coming from as far as Singapore, Dubai, and Chennai, the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, attending the four-hour long event.
The concert showcased Yuvan’s repertoire, ranging from his earlier hits to his latest compositions. The music composer’s impactful background scores and classic songs, such as ‘Namma Kattula’ from the movie ‘Pattiyal’ that was sung by his father Ilaiyaraaja, delighted the audience.
Adding to the excitement, Yuvan brought along some popular guests to join him on stage, namely Silambarasan, a multi-talented Tamil actor involved in playback singing, scriptwriting, music composition and movie directing. Actor Pradeep was also present.
One of the key highlights of the concert was the unplugged rendition of Yuvan together with legendary Malaysian singer, Datuk Zainal Abidin, much to the delight of the audience.
Meanwhile, the ingeniously designed concert stage as a 360° Centre Stage Concept also enhanced the experience of concertgoers, bringing a new dimension to the show and providing an unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts.
With a career spanning 27 years, Yuvan is renowned for his mastery in blending traditional Indian music with modern sounds, creating a unique musical fusion that has captivated audiences worldwide.
The Indian music composer will be embarking on a world tour, with the United States and several other countries lined up for his next concerts. – BERNAMA
