MIRI: Malaysia emerged as the overall champion at the Sarawak Invitational Fencing Championship 2024, which concluded on Saturday, after four days of intense competition at Permymall in Permyjaya.

The event drew participants from four countries — Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Dominating the field, the Malaysian team topped the medal tally with an impressive haul of 28 medals, including 4 gold, 8 silver and 16 bronze.

Brunei Darussalam claimed the second spot with five medals — three gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Thailand secured third place with two gold and one silver medal, while the Philippines rounded off the leaderboard with one gold medal.

The championship concluded with a grand prize presentation ceremony officiated by Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngu at a hotel here.

Dennis praised the athletes for their exceptional performances and the spirit of sportsmanship.

“This year’s championship not only showcased the prowess of the region’s top fencers but also fostered camaraderie and competitive spirit among the participating countries,” he said.
