KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian citizens especially the younger generation have been advised to plant a tree from their homes to save mother earth by participating in the Go Green 2020 — A Voice of Nation virtual event to be held on Dec 12.

It is hoped that the event, which will be hosted by Malaysia for the first time, will help school and university students realise the importance of preserving and conserving the environment, said elite ambassador of the event Dr Nisha Thayananthan.

“Through this event, participants will plant a tree sapling, take a Go Green Pledge and sing the Go Green anthem composed specifically for this event proclaiming the multicultural unity of Malaysia.

“The event opened to all Malaysians will take place virtually from 9am-9pm on Dec 12 and it will only take 10-15 minutes for participants to carry out these three activities from their respective homes,” she told Bernama in an exclusive interview, recently.

Dr Nisha, who is the current Miss Earth Malaysia 2020/21, said participants could register for free at www.gogreenvoiceofnation.com, record all the three activities in their mobile phone, upload the video to their YouTube accounts and send the video link to individualsubmission@gogreenvoiceofnation.com.

“We may be stuck at home and feel helpless when it comes to fighting Covid-19, but we can still take a positive action for the planet by planting trees for better sustainability in the future.

“My preference now is to make Malaysia a greener and better place to live in by promoting prosperity,” said the medical doctor from Putrajaya Hospital, who symbolically planted the first tree in conjunction with the virtual event at the compound of Flamingo Hotel by The Lake here yesterday (Saturday).

The event jointly organised by Sethurams Sruthilaya Arts Academy and SSAA Go Green, is to be certified by Imperial World Records and Awards for ‘Largest Multi-Lingual Singalong about Go Green in 12 Hours’ Time’.
