KUCHING: Hexagon Highs Transport Sdn Bhd yesterday soft-launched the prototype of Malaysia’s first safety trailer truck (SST).

It was developed with In-Cab Camera Streaming Projection (ICCSP) module system. A camera is mounted on a truck dashboard to record the road ahead. The road scene is projected to a large monitor measuring 4ft by 7ft (1.2m by 2.1m) display panel mounted on the trailer.

This real-time streaming projection allows drivers behind to have better view of what is beyond of the truck to help them decide whether or not to overtake.

With this ICCSP-truck, drivers are empowered with faster response time to avoid emergency situations such as sudden braking, animal crossing or accidents just about to happen or happening ahead.

Hexagon Highs Transport (HHT) managing director, William Liang, stated that the initiative was a commitment to responsibility towards drivers and other road users to promote and improve public awareness of road safety, especially when overtaking or during emergency manoeuvres.

“Logistics has been a very challenging industry and as we move forward, technology is taking over a lot of our work and the result is efficiency and productivity. Similarly, we are now collaborating with many companies to look for efficient and cost-saving technology to move into the future.

“As we are going for bigger trucks to reduce cost we are also building bigger routes to sustain bigger vehicles. When you have bigger vehicles on the road, it almost blinds you to what is ahead, which is risky,” he said when speaking at the event.

He added that the safety truck concept was originally mooted a year ago to highlight transport safety as a critical key performance indicator (KPI) in logistics management, especially for Sarawak and Sabah where the trunk roads have single-carriage dual lanes.

Hexagon Highs Transport Sdn Bhd was established in 2006 to provide logistics services to clientele within the state. As the demand for its logistics service grows, it has evolved into a full fledge commercial logistics company in 2010 servicing customers worldwide with their shipments from the rest of the world to Malaysia and vice versa.

It specialises in freight forwarding, custom clearance, shipping, transportation, warehousing and distribution throughout the territories of Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan as well as Brunei.

Also present at the launch were Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak chairman, Dr Lawrence Tseu Sed Kong and Nestle Group Logistics manager Jolle Ijkema.
