KUCHING: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has declared an end to the Mambong Cluster after no new cases were reported within 28 days from the date of the last case.

SDMC in a statement today there was only one remaining active cluster in the state – the Alam Cluster with seven cases.

The Mambong Cluster was detected on July 15 and it involved seven positive Covid-19 cases.

“In short, the Mambong Cluster involves a local company operating in Kuching.

“The cluster was first detected when its index case namely Case 581, underwent Covid-19 screening on July 14 at a private hospital in Kuching due to a sore throat,” it said.

The laboratory test results on the same day found the case to be positive for Covid-19.

Following the report, six more cases involving five workplace contacts and one social contact to the case was detected as a result of contact tracing from the first case.

Overall, the committee said 299 identified contacts consisting of colleagues and close contacts were screened with the last case detected on July 29.

“The last recovered case was discharged from the hospital on August 9.

“Of the seven cases that were detected, only one case had shown early signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection and no cases were admitted to the intensive care unit or death cases were reported in this cluster.

“The cause of Covid-19 infection in the Mambong Cluster is likely to be a local infection within the community.

“This cluster has been successfully curbed from spreading in the community with the cooperation of all agencies under the SDMC,” said the committee.
