KUCHING: Within a few hours after a woman in her 20s was bashed until she fainted, raped and robbed in the early hours yesterday, police caught the suspect outside an eatery in a supermall at 5pm.

The suspect caught in a supermall yesterday evening.

Sarawak Crime Investigation Department chief, SAC Denis Leong confirmed that the law enforcement officers also recovered from the suspect stolen items belonging to the victim.

When the woman went back to her rented room in Tabuan Jaya at 11.35pm on Monday, she found that the light was not working and that her window was open.

Suddenly a masked man came into her room and rained blows on her face and head until she lost consciousness. She woke up to find herself raped and her valuables gone.

The woman immediately lodged a police report and was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for a checkup.

Leong said upon receiving the report, his men were deployed to the house to look for clues and talked to the woman.

They then tracked down the suspect and arrested him at 5pm.

The 25-year-old suspect and his cousin were staying in the same house as the woman. He only moved in a month ago. Found on him were the victim’s gold jewellery, a mobile phone and tablet.

Leong thanked his men for working round the clock to solve the case. He said the suspect had been detained for rape, assault and robbery.
