MIRI: A 49-year-old man from a longhouse in Sungai Tibus, Niah has been detained for allegedly raping his 14-year-old niece.
Miri deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol said that the suspect was apprehended at the longhouse at about 5.15pm yesterday.
“The victim’s mother lodged a report, saying that her daughter was raped by her uncle and is now eight months pregnant,” said Supt Sabri.
Preliminary investigation found that the incident took place at the longhouse inside the suspect’s ‘bilik’ (longhouse unit) on July 2021.
A police report was lodged by the victim’s mother in Lundu on April 12.
It was believed that the victim and the mother ran to Lundu District as they feared the suspect.
The suspect is currently being detained for questioning, and the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
