Man arrested for drink driving

KUCHING: A 30-year-old man was nabbed during an Ops Mabuk operation at Jalan Tabuan here for driving under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday (May 19).

Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said test results found that the man had an alcohol level of 116mg/100ml, which exceeded the set limit.

“If convicted, the suspect can be charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM6,000 or imprisonment not less than 12 months,” he said today (May 20).

Merbin said Ops Mabuk was carried out to prevent and eradicate drink driving.

He added that a total of 16 summonses for various offenses were issued throughout the duration of the operation.

He said the offenses include not wearing seat belt, fancy plate numbers, failure to provide driving license, expired road tax, third brake light not working, exhaust modification, horn not working, no side mirrors and so on.

“A total of 51 vehicles and 64 individuals were inspected during the operation,” he said.
