MIRI: A local man was detained by police on Monday for allegedly stealing eight tonnes of oil palm fresh fruit bunch (FFB) worth RM7,000 from a lorry that was parked by the roadside nearby the BLD junction along the Miri-Bintulu Road.

The incident was reported to have occurred around 7am on September 25.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed receiving a police report on the incident and said the 34-year-old suspect was detained around 4.50pm on Monday.

Police also seized a single cab vehicle believed to have been used in the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred after the lorry’s driver pulled over after one of its tyres was punctured and left the lorry unattended.
