Man arrested for hitting ex-wife

PADAWAN: Police arrested a 23-year-old man on Friday for allegedly hitting his ex-wife with a mobile phone on Wednesday (June 17).

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said that the incident happened behind e-Mart Matang at 5.10pm.

According to the complainant, the suspect who is a labourer, asked the victim to sit next to him and accompany him while he was smoking.

“However, the victim refused to sit with him and left the area. The man then became furious and attacked the victim by hitting her head and face with the phone.

“Due to the incident, the victim suffered cuts and bruises on her head, and was rushed to receive treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said, adding that the man fled the scene after the incident.

Aidil noted that the man, who has a criminal record, was arrested by police at 1pm and the phone used to cause the injuries was seized.

The cause of the incident was because the suspect was jealous and still harboured feelings towards the complainant.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
