KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested a local man for possessing drugs worth RM610 at Jalan Temenggong Haji Gobil here, yesterday (Jan 31).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect was picked up around 10.45am following a public tip-off.

“Inspections led to 24 plastic packets containing drugs believed to be syabu that were kept inside a plastic container.

“The value of the drugs weighing 6.10g is estimated to be around RM610,” he said.

Ahsmon said the suspect who also tested positive for marijuana, will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, the suspect may be sentenced to jail for a term up to five years and face up to three lashes of the rotan.
