Man arrested for running illegal lottery outlet

BAU: A man was arrested on suspicion of operating a lottery outlet without a licence at Jalan Kampung Krokong Pisa here last Saturday (Sept 5).

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said a raid, dubbed Ops Dadu, was carried out by a team of personnel of Bau Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at a grocery store around 4pm.

“The team arrested the 27-year-old man and seized from him cash and two cardboard pieces with unlicensed lottery numbers written on them,” he said in a statement.

The suspect and seized items were taken to Bau police station for further action.

Poge added that the man, who does not have any criminal record, will be investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which carries a fine not less than RM20,000 and not exceeding RM200,000, or jailed up to five years, if found guilty.
