KUCHING: A man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a forklift belonging to an engineering company in Bintawa here.

Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa, in a statement on Thursday (April 8), said the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday (April 7) at around 1.30pm.

“A team from the Kuching Criminal Investigation Department managed to locate the machine at a used goods sales and purchase premises in Pending.

“This led to the arrest of the 60-year-old suspect. Four forklift tyres were found at his residence in Bintawa.”

Investigation revealed that the suspect had hired a crane and a lorry to transport the forklift, which was parked by the roadside, for sale at the secondhand shop.

“The suspect tested negative for drug abuse. The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than seven years and a fine, if convicted.”

Supt Merbin also advised the public to keep their belongings in a safe place and not leave them unattended.
