SIBU: A 46-year-old truck driver was arrested by police for making a vulgar gesture to a traffic policeman when he was issued a summons for parking his vehicle in a restricted area.

The incident happened at 8am at Jalan Bengkel here on Sunday.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, who confirmed the incident, said due to the suspect’s behaviour, he was arrested for allegedly preventing civil servants from performing their duties.

“During the incident, the traffic policeman issued a summons to the suspect for parking his vehicle in a restricted area.

“At the time the summons was being issued, the suspect was about to reverse his vehicle but was stopped by the traffic policeman,” he said.

Stanley said the suspect then got out of the vehicle, took the summons, tore it up, and threw it on the ground.

“After that, the suspect continued to make vulgar gestures by showing his middle finger and hurling abusive words towards the officer,” he further added.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and also includes offenses under Section 509 of the Penal Code which is an act or pornographic statement to defame a person.
