Man attacks sister in dispute over money

KUCHING: A 23-year-old man, yesterday, assaulted and strangled his disabled sister after she refused to entertain his desperate plea for money.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the incident occurred at Taman Malihah here at around 8pm.

“He strangled his sister using a cloth and punched her in the head,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Family members alerted the police for assistance immediately upon learning of the assault.

“The Motorcycle Patrol Unit from the headquarters arrived at the scene following a report received at 9.28pm.

“The suspect was then arrested and brought to the Batu Kawah police station,” he said, adding that a knife was also surrendered to the police by the suspect.

Aidil added that the suspect had previous criminal record including a drug arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 and 323 of the Penal Code.
