KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested a local man for allegedly possessing various drugs worth RM17,803 last Sunday (Jan 14).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect was arrested around 12.35 pm in BDC area.

During the raid, police found 31 plastic packets containing 85.04g of syabu and 5.30g of ketamine on the suspect.

The drugs, along with a Perodua Axia belonging to the 48-year-old man, were seized for further investigation.

The suspect, who did not have any prior records, tested positive for amphetamine.

Ahsmon said the suspect is being remanded until Jan 22 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he may face the mandatory death penalty or sentenced to life imprisonment and up to 12 lashes of the cane.
