MIRI: A 29-year-old unemployed man was arrested for possessing methamphetamine here on Tuesday (Oct 19).

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said two raids were carried out by personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Departments of the Miri districts police headquarters and the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters.

“During the raids that took place at 11.20am at a workshop in Jalan Datuk Muip and a house in Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, the police found 52 transparent packets containing substances believed to be methamphetamine weighing 8,264.2g and valued at RM314,400,” he said during a press conference today (Oct 20).

The police also seized a car worth around RM15,000 from the house in Kampung Pengkalan Lutong.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs are believed to be for local distribution.

“The suspect had been actively involved in drug trafficking for about two months prior to the raids,” said Hakemal.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
