KUCHING: A 36-year-old man stands accused of raping his 12-year-old daughter at the family home in Bintawa last month.
Under the law he can be jailed up to 30 years and also whipped should he be found guilty of the offence.
The court released him on a RM15,000 bail with two sureties and ordered the accused and his family members to stay 200 metres away from the minor.
Prosecuting Officer DPP Mohamad Aiman Mutalib Mohamad Sharif had earlier objected to bail on the grounds that the accused may abscond and may also commit the offence again as the girl was his own daughter.
Under an amended charge read out in court he is accused of raping his 12 years 20-months-old daughter in a bedroom at about 7pm on Dec 25, 2021.
The accused who was not represented told the court he intended to procure the services of a defence lawyer.
It could not be immediately established if he had managed to post bail.
