KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have detained a local man believed to be a drug mule and seized 5.3 kg of syabu worth about RM266,250 at the Tawau Airport on Monday.

Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested during the 3.45pm operation carried out by a team from the Tawau district police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

“The suspect had just arrived at the Tawau Airport from Kuala Lumpur and the inspection carried out on his luggage found five plastic packages, labelled as ‘Big Bang Grilled Seaweed’.

He said the team also found another package labelled as “Chinese Tea Gift” which contained a transparent packet containing crystal-like substance weighing 5.3 kg, believed to be syabu.

During the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he worked as a drug mule and received RM6,000 for each shipment, he said.

“Initial investigation also found that the suspect obtained the drug supply from Kuala Lumpur and trying to smuggle it into Tawau. We are now conducting further intelligence to trace the supplier,” he said to reporters here yesterday. – Bernama
