MIRI: A 26-year-old man was detained for assaulting his sister by the roadside of Jalan Dato Permaisuri 2A here on Monday (May 24).

A commotion broke out when the victim, 22, tried to calm her brother down who had ran amok earlier on looking for his wife.

The suspect then hit her with a parang (machete) sheath, injuring her on the left cheek.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the man was detained after his sister lodged a police report that day.

He was picked up at his flat unit at Quadruplex Bandar Baru Permyjaya around 10.30pm by a team of personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department.

Investigation revealed that the suspect has no past criminal history.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
