MIRI: A man was detained last Friday night for allegedly punching his wife after he suspected her of having an affair.
The 56-year-old suspect was said to have committed the act at their house at the Millenium Garden in Piasau at about 2pm on Friday.
According to Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the suspect had allegedly hit the 45-year-old victim on the face during an altercation that day before smashing her with a chair.
Following the incident, the victim then lodged a police report.
Acting on the report lodged, a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the house around 7.50pm that same day and detained the suspect.
Police also seized a chair believed to have been used in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act.
