SIBU: A 20-year-old motorcyclist died when a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle mowed him down while he was repairing his motorcycle.

According to Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, in the 6pm incident Thursday, the biker was repairing his machine at Lebaan Bridge in Jalan Tanjung Manis when 4WD vehicle suddenly came down on Mohd Adzhar Sahrer.

Stanley said Mohd Adzhar was thrown five metres away due to the impact while his pillion friend sustained a broken leg.

“The victim succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot while his friend was rushed to the Sibu Hospital,” Stanley said.

The driver of the vehicle, who escaped unhurt, has been detained under Section 112 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and may be charged under Section 41(1) of the same Act.
