MIRI: An elderly man fainted and died outside a shopping mall at Jalan Merpati here on Tuesday (Aug 4).
Miri district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said that the 62-year-old victim was found lying unconscious in front of an eatery around 12.30pm.
Passers-by and the mall’s security guard, who witnessed the incident, immediately alerted the authorities.
The victim was confirmed dead by paramedics, who arrived at the scene shortly after.
Lim added that the victim’s body was taken to Miri Hospital for further actions.
Early investigations revealed that the victim had just stepped out of the mall before fainting suddenly.
The case is classified as sudden death.
