SIBU: A man did not fulfil his wish to visit his sick sister-in-law in Sarikei when he was killed in an accident yesterday.

The victim was identified as Yii Kheng Ang, 64, from Apollo Road here.

Prior to the accident, Yii had gone to Lanang police station to apply for a permit for inter-district travel.

His sister-in-law is said to be 85 years old.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said Yii’s car collided with an oil truck at Paradom Road around 1pm.

“The victim was pronounced dead by paramedics from Sibu Hospital at the scene,” he said when contacted.

According to Stanley, Yii was trapped in his vehicle and was retrieved by firefighters.

“Investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the truck driver lost control of his vehicle before entering the opposite lane where Yii’s vehicle was,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
