Man dies on massage chair while waiting to board plane

MIRI: A 38 year-old male cook was found unconscious on a coin massage chair in an area for outbound passengers at the  Miri Airport on Thursday
afternoon.

He was later pronounced dead by paramedics from Miri Hospital who rushed to the scene upon receiving an alert on the discovery at 1.05pm.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the case.

“The man, identifed as Niek Pick Huat from Bandar Baru Permyjaya, was supposed to fly to Singapore today (Thursday), and while waiting to board the flight, he sat on one of the
massage chairs,” said Lim.

Niek was supposed to board flight AK 1755 bound to Singapore at 12.51pm.

“The deceased had a history of hypertension,” explained Lim.

He said prior to the discovery, several witnesses saw Niek sat on the massage chair at the departure hall for nearly one hour, before an Immigration officer noticed his motionless body slouched on the chair.

The body was later taken to Miri Hospital morgue.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
