MIRI: A man drowned after his vehicle overshot a road and plunged into a river at Pulau Melayu here on Sunday.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, a team of firefighters from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station was despatched to the scene after a call on the accident was received around 8.30pm.

The Bomba Water Rescue Unit was also present to assist in the rescue operation.

The vehicle was found about 20 feet from the waterfront, with the victim still inside.

The remains were recovered from the water by the personnel while the car was retrieved using a crane.

Both the victim and car were then handed over to the police for further action.
