Man electrocuted on transformer rig

Firemen bring down the body of a man from the transformer rig at Jalan Serian-Sri Aman.

SERIAN: A man was confirmed dead after he is believed to have gotten stuck on a transformer rig at Kampung Semukoi A, Jalan Serian-Sri Aman yesterday (Apr 11).

Serian police chief, DSP Aswandy Anis, said preliminary investigations found no signs of foul play at the scene and is believed to have died due to electrocution.

“However, it is believed that the victim trespassed into the transformer rig based on findings of equipment such as a screwdriver, a saw and a spanner.

“The body was taken to the hospital for post-mortem,” he said.

He added that the victim is believed to be a local but there were no identification documents on him.

Members of the public who had lost their family members, are urged to come forward to Serian police station to identify the body.

Aswandy pointed out that the case is being classified as sudden death.

Earlier, firemen from Serian station were deployed to assist in bringing the victim down from the platform after receiving a distress call around 10.25am.

Upon arriving, the team could not perform their duties of bringing the victim down as the electric current was still active and unsafe for them.

They had to wait for Sarawak Energy Berhad (SESCO) personnel to disconnect the electricity before they could bring the body down.

The police also assisted in the operation to bring the victim down from the transformer platform.
