KUCHING: A 27-year-old man from Kampung Lada Pedas has been fined RM1,500 or sentenced to three months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here.

Mohd Nawawiee Abu Bakar pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Aug 2) to the charge of stealing three rolls of electrical cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia in Jalan Keranji, Tabuan Jaya, on July 28, at around 4pm.

The offence falls under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

A police patrol team conducting rounds in the area noticed a motorcycle under suspicious circumstances.
A police officer, acting as the complainant, observed the scene for 15 minutes and caught the accused in the act of storing electrical cables in a sack.

Upon realising the presence of the police, the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended, and the stolen items were seized.

Investigations confirmed that the accused had indeed stolen three rolls of electrical cables.
Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
