Man fined RM1,500 for drink driving

KUCHING: A 23-year-old man was fined RM1,500 by the Kuching Magistrate’s Court here for drink driving.

Sakius Bunan, who was detained after he was stopped and inspected during an operation codenamed “Ops Mabuk” around 12.58am on Sept 5, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Syukri Mokhtar on Tuesday (Sept 29).

Sakius was charged with committing the offence at Jalan Simpang Tiga, here.  He paid the fine.

According to the facts of the case, Sakius was driving along Jalan Simpang Tiga before he was stopped to do a breathalyser, and was found positive under the influence of alcohol.

His blood alcohol contest was found to be 97mg/100ml, and it was higher than the legal limit of 80mg alcohol/100ml.

He was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or a jail term not exceeding 12 months.
