Man fined RM2,000 for criminal intimidation

KUCHING: A man was fined RM2,000, in default, three months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for criminal intimidation.

Magistrate Chai Guan Hock meted out the sentence after the charge was read out to the accused by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Hafiz Musa.

According to facts of the case, Sahdan Samat, 24, was found to have shot a chicken belonging to Iswari Marzuki about 9pm on April 19 with the intention to trigger a quarrel.

Sahdan who allegedly committed the offence behind Iswari’s house at Kampung Sebuak, Jalan Landeh was arrested by the police on May 8.

Based on the charge, Sahdan was found to have committed criminal intimidation against Iswari using sharp objects.

The accused was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both upon conviction.
