Man fined RM3k for threatening girlfriend’s acquaintance with machete

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to a fine of RM3,000 in default five months’ in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for threatening to kill his girlfriend’s acquaintance with a machete and a cane.

The accused Hamdan, 43, from Kampung Pulo Hilir pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the facts of the case, he was accused of deliberately making criminal threats to kill the 41-year-old male victim at a rugby field in Jalan Song Kheng Hai, at about 7.20 pm, on Aug 20 this year.

Upon conviction, the accused can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine or both.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused known as ‘Lobo’ suddenly approached the victim, wielding a machete and a cane, and threatened to kill the victim.

Hamdan was not satisfied with the victim for always calling and bothering his girlfriend.

The victim admitted that he was in contact with his girlfriend but as a friend because the woman often complained to him when there was disagreement between them.

As a result of the incident, the victim who was worried about his safety filed a police report which led to the arrest of the accused on Aug 22 this year.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
