MARUDI: A 24-year-old man was found dead, hanging from the ceiling beams in his ‘bilik’ (a unit) of a longhouse in Lepong Ajai, Sungai Liam on Saturday night (Aug 14).

Marudi police chief DSP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib said the victim’s body was discovered by his wife at about 8.50pm.

He added the last time the man was seen alive was around 8pm after he attended a ‘gotong-royong’ session with the villagers of the longhouse.

“He returned to his room alone early that night,” said Ruslan.

He said the wife was shocked to see her husband’s body hanging in the living room when she went back to the room.

She immediately alerted the other villagers who helped her to bring down the body.

The lifeless body was then taken to Haji Openg Health Clinic in Bekenu.

“Preliminary investigation ruled out criminal element in the deceased’s death and found no physical injuries on the body,” said Ruslan.

He added that the deceased, who was an offshore worker, had just moved to the longhouse with his wife after both his parents and a sibling died in a car crash in June this year.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
